Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how PlushPets ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares your personal information and your pet's photos when you visit getplushpets.com, sign up for our emails, place an order or contact us. We sell to customers in the United States only.

1. Who we are

PlushPets, Madelagehof 6, 3833 AJ Leusden, the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce number [KVK NUMBER]). Because our business is based in the Netherlands, we also follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For privacy questions, email hello@getplushpets.com.

2. What we collect

Contact details: name, email address, phone number (if you enter it), billing and shipping address. If you send a gift, we also receive the recipient's name and shipping address.
Order details: what you ordered, your pet's name, your design approvals and tweak requests, and your messages to us.
Your pet's photo: the photo you upload and the designs we make from it. A photo of a pet is usually not personal information, but it can be if people are visible in it or the file contains location data. Please use a photo without people in it where you can. We remove location data from photos where we technically can.
Payment details: payments are handled by our payment providers (such as Shopify Payments and PayPal). We do not receive your full card number.
Email sign-ups: your email address and your choices when you sign up for our emails or use one of our discount pop-ups.
Device and usage information: IP address, browser and device type, and how you use our website, collected with cookies and similar technologies.

3. How we use it

To make and deliver your blanket: creating and emailing your design, handling tweaks and approvals, weaving and shipping your blanket, and taking care of payments and warranty claims.
To email you about your order, including design reminders and shipping updates.
To send you marketing emails and discount codes if you signed up. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email.
To show your blanket or your pet's portrait in our marketing, only if you have given us separate permission. You can withdraw that permission at any time.
To protect our store against fraud, and to improve our website and products.
To comply with the law, such as keeping tax and accounting records.

4. How we make your design

We create your pet's portrait using AI image generation. To do this, your pet's photo is sent to an AI service from Google (the Gemini API), which creates the illustration for us. Under the terms that apply to our use of this service, the photos we send are not used to train Google's models. A person on our team checks every design, and you approve it yourself before we start weaving.

5. Who we share it with

We only share your information when needed for the purposes above, with:

Shopify, which runs our store and checkout;
payment providers such as Shopify Payments and PayPal;
Google, to create your design;
Klaviyo, to send order emails and, if you signed up, marketing emails;
our production partner in the United States, which receives your approved design, your pet's name and your shipping details to weave and ship your blanket;
shipping carriers, which receive the name and address on the package and, where needed, an email address or phone number for delivery updates;
our accountant and IT providers; and
authorities, when the law requires it.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Our store may use Shopify features and advertising cookies that help show you our ads on other websites. Under some state laws this counts as "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out at any time (see Section 8).

6. Where it is processed

Your information is processed in the United States, the European Union and other countries where our service providers work. When information leaves the EU, we use recognized safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. How long we keep it

Your pet's photo and designs: up to 24 months after delivery, so we can handle warranty claims and make a reorder easy. Then we delete them. You can ask us to delete them sooner, unless we still need them for an open claim.
Order and payment records: 7 years, as required by tax law.
Emails with our customer service: up to 2 years after your question has been handled.
Your account: until you close it.
Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe.

8. Your rights and choices

Depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas or Oregon), you may have the right to:

know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it;
correct it;
delete it;
opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising; and
withdraw your consent.

We give these rights to all of our customers, wherever they live in the U.S. To use them, email hello@getplushpets.com. To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising, use this page. We also treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as an opt-out for that browser or device. We do not respond to other "Do Not Track" signals.

We may need to verify your identity before we handle your request. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that they act for you. We respond within the time the law requires, usually within 45 days. If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can also contact your state attorney general or the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

9. Cookies

We use cookies that our website needs to work, such as for your cart and checkout. We use analytics and advertising cookies according to your choices in our cookie banner. You can also manage cookies in your browser.

10. Shopify

Our store runs on Shopify. For some features, Shopify uses information as an independent company. Read more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and the Shopify Privacy Portal.

11. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so please don't email us sensitive information you don't need to share.

12. Children

Our website is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
